Although the City Administrator is the Planning Director for the city, Public Works provides most of the staff for the planning function of the city. The Public Services Officer performs most technical staff work and the Public Works Secretary performs administrative support for Planning including acting as secretary for the Bishop Planning Commission. Planning activities include environmental reviews, use permits, parcel and tract maps, and zoning changes.
The City of Bishop Planning Department provides services and conducts activities which guide the city’s orderly development by applying current zoning, facilitating development, and developing and implementing the General Plan. Planning is a proactive process that establishes goals and policies for directing and managing future growth and development.
Current Services Include:
- General Plan Updates
- Zoning Codes
- Zoning Designations
- Conditional Use Permits/Variance
- Environmental Reviews
The Planning Department staff provides the highest level of service and is always happy to answer your questions.
